Two Steps

February 21, 2021

This is one of the few beaches south of the condo. This is an absolute snorkeler’s paradise! This is probably some of the best snorkeling on the island, let alone the entire island chain. This is not a beach for sand... in fact there is very little. There are some lava beds for those die-hard sun enthusiasts but most people come here for the diving and snorkeling. I have seen just about everything you can see under the water in Hawaii at this location. I once was swarmed by a herd of friendly dolphins. One of the best experiences of my life. Since then, they have imposed new laws about swimming with Dolphins. Please avoid the Dolphins and pay attention to the posted rules. It is called two steps because of the two volcanic steps that you enter the water. It can get very very crowded here at times so get here early. The best snorkeling is always early in the morning. If you can get here before 8:30am you should be golden. Once you have had your snorkeling fill of the beach right across from the condo, go to Two Steps. The water is much deeper and can attract different types of sea life. The coral structure here is incredible. Swim along the shore to the north. If you are good swimmer, explore all the bays and nooks and crannies. There is some really nice structure. I have often seen mating octopus here which is an incredible find when snorkeling! Remember to stop at Super J’s on the way back for some Lau Lau! If you love to snorkel, you will find yourself in paradise here! This is only about 20 minutes south of the condo.
