Magic Sands Beach

February 1, 2021

This beach is only a few minutes north of the condo on Ali’i Dr. It is a favorite beach among visitors as it is so close to downtown Kona and offers some very warm water and nice white sandy beaches. After large storms, the sand can actually be taken out to sea and then slowly replaced with the tides. During calm days, it’s the place to soak up the sun and relax. The waves do offer some boogie boarding and body surfing but be very careful of the shore break here when it is rough. The waves can tend to crash right on the beach. Many people get hurt on this beach each year. Be warned that this beach can get crazy busy from sun up to sun down during high season. If this happens to you, you may want to venture to another beach. Lots of people like this beach but have no idea of the tremendous beaches up north. This is a cruise ship beach for sure! The locals tend to hang out by the showers and keep to themselves. They don’t like it much when you infringe on their turf on the far south side. (Hawaii Brah!) But being polite and smiling goes a long way. Most Hawaiian people are very friendly but then again there are all types in Hawaii. Spend a few hours here for convenience, but if you want an all-day beach spot. make the drive to some of the other recommendations.
